Goodreads Synopsis:
Five years ago, Wren Connolly was shot three times in the chest. After 178 minutes she came back as a Reboot: stronger, faster, able to heal, and less emotional. The longer Reboots are dead, the less human they are when they return. Wren 178 is the deadliest Reboot in the Republic of Texas. Now seventeen years old, she serves as a soldier for HARC (Human Advancement and Repopulation Corporation).

Wren’s favorite part of the job is training new Reboots, but her latest newbie is the worst she’s ever seen. As a 22, Callum Reyes is practically human. His reflexes are too slow, he’s always asking questions, and his ever-present smile is freaking her out. Yet there’s something about him she can’t ignore. When Callum refuses to follow an order, Wren is given one last chance to get him in line—or she’ll have to eliminate him. Wren has never disobeyed before and knows if she does, she’ll be eliminated, too. But she has also never felt as alive as she does around Callum.

The perfect soldier is done taking orders.

Cover: There isn't much to discuss when it comes to the cover of this book. It is fairly simple, yet right on point. The number 178 describes our protagonist, while the colors mesh well together. In the novel, it it very dark and eerie. Wren, the protagonist is constantly wearing black, and there so happens to be lots of blood in the story. So as a cover, I think it is perfect. Not every book cover needs a pretty young lady in a dress, in my opinion. So well done, publishers.

Plot: This story takes place in the heart of Texas, which happens to be my home. As a distopian novel, I felt that this story was very exciting and fast-paced! I haven't read many distopian books, so I was really intrigued with this plot! I found myself jumping out of my seat several times throughout the story due to the fact that I wanted to know what was going to happen. I was also very excited when it came to Wren and her kickass abilities! What can I say? I love a female protagoniost who knows how to be such a bad ass! (How many times have I used the words kick ass and bad ass? A lot. Okay. Just checking!) Sorry, but that is the only way to explain her! Lol. I loved the idea of having Wren so accustomed to the life at HARC, then have her life flash before her eyes when Callum appears out of nowhere. It is time that she uses her "kick ass" abilities on the HARC guards, and not for their dirty work!
The relationship between Callum and Wren is cute. At first it did feel really rushed, but as the story went on and their relationship grew, and I began to really like it. Wren is a dynamic character, in which she experiences several changes throughout the novel. I loved that about her. At times, we have to reevaluate our life in order to find our true identity. Wren and Callum managed to do that successfully.

Characters:
Wren: Wren is such a bad ass. She's tough. Fearless. Fast. Determined. She is everything that you want in a heroine. However, she does have a soft side. A side that I like to see in a female protagonist. After all, she is a girl. She was definitely my favorite character!

Callum: Callum is such a goof! He is clueless and unaware of what is going on. As a new reboot at HARC, he doesn't take it well. I found myself laughing at his awkwardness and clumsiness  But at times, I was also frustrated with his inability to take orders! After all, he was so close to being eliminated! He isn't the tough, masculine and built up buff guy that is in many books, however, he is strong minded and charismatic.

Writing: I found the writing to be fairly easy to get into. Tintera's style flows very well and smoothly. I laid in bed for hours reading this book because I was so entwined in the details and figurative language.  She does a great job at vividly describing the scenery that allows me to enter the world while not boring me with too much details. I love when an author can do that! Great job Amy Tintera.

Rating: Overall, I give this novel 5 out of 5 stars! I can't wait to continue on with the series! If your looking for a fast paced, action-packed novel with a badass female protagonist, then I definitely suggest you check out this novel!
