The Pain of Being a Broke HS Student

As an extremely busy AP high school student-athlete, having a job is merely impossible. My time will just now allow it. While I do enjoy the comfort of my parents paying for most of my expenses, there comes a time when I wish I had money. I am a lover of books, if that is not obvious. Therefore, owning my own library of novels becomes crucial for an avid reader like myself. I mean, why wouldn't I want a beautiful bookshelf in my room? While I do own a good amount of novels, thanks to my dad's credit card, I would really enjoy it if I had more. My main resource for reading books has become the library. Which is all fine and dandy! They're free borrowed books. Who doesn't like that? The library isn't an issue for me. My library has a wide selection of books, and most of the time, if the one I want isn't there, I can place a hold and they will order one from another nearby library. Isn't that just amazing? Yes. However, it becomes a problem when there are over five people placing a hold on the same book! Then it becomes a struggle to actually receive the book. Also, to make it fair, they only allow you a certain amount of time to have it checked out. This is when I really wish I was able to hop on the Internet, type up amazon.com, and order whichever book I want! My dad has been very generous as to comply with my demand of books. (Thank you, father!)
However, when it comes to more expensive books, I feel really guilty about asking him for it. For example: I just finished reading Beautiful Creatures, which was lent to me by a friend of mine. Now, I absolutely loved the book! So, I decided to place a hold on the second book, Beautiful Darkness from the Houston Public Library. Ha! Not going to happen. There are over sixteen holds on that book! Way too many. So, I decided to look them up on amazon. Each book is about &11.89 for the hardcover, and & $8.98 for the paperback version. Not bad if you ask me. I decided it would be much cheaper and simpler to just get the whole box-set. The hardcover box set comes with all four books, and cost about $44.00. (If you do the math, that is $11.00 per book. Which, again, is not bad.) I can buy the paperback box-set, which only comes with the first three books, (since the last once hasn't been released in paperback yet) for &17.99, and buy the last book in hardcover for $11.98, which comes up to a total of about $28.00. That sounds pretty reasonable to me. Plus, I can add in another book which I really want (and that also has a line of people wanting to check it out from the library) Splintered. Now, if I had my own money, that would be pretty sweet. Five books for $40.00? Not too bad. However, now I have to go through the persistent nagging to my father for his approval of ordering these books. (I'm pretty sure he'll say yes.) But then again, I feel pretty bad. It is a lot of money to ask of him. *Sighs.
Well, that was my rant on my lack of money and love for books that I am unable to buy. I swear if I had a job, my money would constantly be spent on lovely novels. (And paying my dad back for all the books he was so generous as to purchase for me!)

Thanks for reading!
