Synopsis: Mara Dyer doesn't think life can get any stranger than waking up in a hospital with no memory of how she got there.
It can.
She believes there must be more to the accident she can’t remember that killed her friends and left her mysteriously unharmed.
There is.
She doesn't believe that after everything she’s been through, she can fall in love.
She’s wrong.
My Thoughts/Review: The first few chapters of the book really drew me in. I dove into the book with not much of an idea as to what the story may hold for me. After all, the synopsis is very vague, yet intriguing. I knew it was going to be suspenseful. I understood that it would have me on the edge of my seat. However, what I did discover had me completely shocked.
The overall story of the book was amazing. I truly enjoyed it. Mara just woke up in the hospital clueless as to what happened to her and her friends, and why she was the only one to come out unharmed. After realizing the overall catastrophe that took place, she decides to move to Miami Florida and start a new life. It is here where she meets Noah, a mysterious kid who she finds herself surprisingly attracted to. After settling in, she begins to experience weird and indescribable "hallucinations" that begin to haunt her. She also starts to learn more about what truly happened to her and her friends that one night. It only comes to her in snippets in her dreams as to the events that took place. Little by little she is able to put pieces together and understand more of what really happened, and discover who she truly is.
While the story did keep me on my toes, I found myself really confused during some parts. I had no idea what was going on, and my mind really began to lose the whole concept of the story. I had to re-read some parts. However, the confusing aspect of the story isn't necessarily a bad thing. At least not for this book. I believe that is what the author intended to create: confusion. You never really know what is truly going on until the end of the book, which makes the second book much more exciting to read! The ending definitely made the book worth a four star rating, and I'm absolutely excited to read The Evolution of Mara Dyer! The cliffhanger was a killer!
