Goodreads Synopsis: Miranda wakes up alone on a park bench with no memory. In her panic, she releases a mysterious energy that incites pure terror in everyone around her. Except Peter, a boy who isn’t at all surprised by Miranda’s shocking ability.

Left with no choice but to trust this stranger, Miranda discovers she was trained to be a weapon and is part of an elite force of genetically-altered teens who possess flawless combat skills and powers strong enough to destroy a city. But adjusting to her old life isn’t easy—especially with Noah, the boyfriend she can’t remember loving.

Then Miranda uncovers a dark truth that sets her team on the run. Suddenly her past doesn’t seem to matter... when there may not be a future.

Dan Krokos’ debut is a tour-de-force of non-stop action that will leave readers begging for the next book in this bold and powerful new series.

***I did read this book back in December of 2012, however, the sequel comes out August 13, 2013 and I really wanted to review it in an attempt to persuade everyone to pick up this fantastic book and read it!

Cover: Ah, where do I even begin? I absolutely adore this cover! The bright blue contrasting with the shadows of two individuals who happen to be our protagonists. It is absolutely stunning! It is even more gorgeous in its physical state! I think it is a perfect cover for the fascinating and mysterious story that lied inside!

Plot: This novel is extremely suspenseful, action-packed, and jammed with excitement and unpredictable events! Reading this book literally had me on the edge of my seat! No joke! Dan Krokos has an amazing way of keeping the reader guessing, and making them (Me) think that you (I) know what is going on. The minute I *think I have the story discovered, Krokos surprises me and takes me on a whole new ride!

I loved the idea of having our protagonist, Miranda, wake up and discover her new abilities. She has no idea what is going on, and suspects that she has gone crazy. That is until Peter, one of her kind, shows up and introduces her to the world of her own kind. They both go on an adventure to unwind the mysteries that lie behind their creators and what their intentional purpose is for everyone like Miranda and Peter. There are so many crazy events taking place in the story, so many surprises, and mysteries. I was left breathless and asking for more whenever the story ended! I was unaware of its sequel, but believe me when I discovered that there in fact was one on the way, I did a little happy dance. (What? I was excited!)

I was in love with all of the fighting scenes, motorcycle riding-- everything! And the ENDING, oh my GOSH that ending! This isn't one of those cliffhanger ending  but rather an ending that has you extremely shocked and, during this point, is when I actually fell of the seat of my chair! (Not literally.)

Characters:
Miranda: Miranda is our main protagonist is awesome! I absolutely loved her! During the beginning of the story, she is scared, confused, unwilling to accept what Peter has told her and most of all, crestfallen. After all, she woke up to discover a side of her that she has never even witnessed. And to make matters worse, she doesn't remember a thing about her past. However, she is determined to discover her future, and what role she plays in it. When she discovers that people are in danger, she puts on her kick ass gear and gets to work! She is fearless. And just utterly awesome as a heroine! Great job, Krokos!

Peter: Peter is the guy who knows everything about their kind, and aids Miranda into figuring out who she is. He is an overall amazing character who I was able to connect with instantly! He is the team leader and fearless! He is also very protective of the others, and is determined to keep them safe! Peter is not scared of anyone. He is the man!

Noah: Noah is Miranda's "boyfriend". He is a beauty and is absolutely a killer! (With his hands!) I loved him and his personality! He always has a smile on his face, yet at the same time is a bit torn by the fact that Miranda does not remember a single thing about their relationship!

Olive: Olive is the other female of the group, and is an amazing friend of Miranda's. Just like everyone else, she is fierce and determined to fight and win. To discover and conquer. She is amazing, and I would be honored to have a friend like her!

Writing: Is this even a question? The writing was spectacular! I loved it! It was smooth, creative, detailed yet not the too-detailed-that-I'm-bored-and-want-to-put-the-book-down type. It was the -oh-my-gosh-I-feel-like-I-am-a-part-of-the-book type! He did a fantastic job at creating the characters as well as writing in the POV of a female! He did spectacular!

Rating: Oh cm'on! There is no doubt in my mind that this book is not a 5 star rating! Therefore, I definitely give this awesomely fantastic and action-packed novel a 5 out of 5 stars!
