 Goodreads Synopsis:

They hear the most silent of footsteps.
They are faster than anything you've ever seen.
And They won't stop chasing you...until you are dead.

Amy is watching TV when it happens, when the world is attacked by Them. These vile creatures are rapidly devouring mankind. Most of the population is overtaken, but Amy manages to escape—and even rescue “Baby,” a toddler left behind in the chaos. Marooned in Amy’s house, the girls do everything they can to survive—and avoid Them at all costs.

After years of hiding, they are miraculously rescued and taken to New Hope, a colony of survivors living in a former government research compound. While at first the colony seems like a dream with plenty of food, safety, and shelter, New Hope slowly reveals that it is far from ideal. And Amy soon realizes that unless things change, she’ll lose Baby—and much more.

Rebellious, courageous, and tender, this unforgettable duo will have you on the edge of your seat as you tear through the pulse-pounding narrow escapes and horrifying twists of fate in this thrilling debut from author Demitria Lunetta.

Cover: This book cover really captivated my attention when I first saw it. It appeases me in a very creepy way, and I absolutely love it. The colors mesh really well together, and the destructive apocalyptic scenery plays into part with the story and what it is about. I am a sucker for dark and eerie book covers for some reason, as they really attract my attention. Overall, the cover is a plus to the amazing story lying inside.

Plot: To be honest, I'm not the biggest fan of post apocalyptic novels, due to the fact that they somehow give me nightmares, and creep me out. I have no idea why, but every novel that I have read that has to do with the world ending, (it's only been a few) has given me horrible nightmares. However, the plot of this story was amazing, and although I did have some creepy dreams, they were not alarming, nor were they a bother. This story if filled with suspense, action, humor (occasionally), romance (yes there is a bit, however, it is not the center of the story, and it's a perfect little dash of it) and just took me on an adventurous ride! There are three parts to the book, and I must admit, the first part did start off a bit slow, but it  definitely kicked up in the last two parts of the novel! The story is a mixture of apocalyptic to dystopian, and I love it! The idea of the aliens and how they were perceived and how they lived really intrigued me. The second half of the novel is when the dysoptian concept kicks in, when Amy and Baby are brought to a survivor camp, and must follow certain guidelines, even if they are not fond of it. Overall, the plot really amazed me, and I loved it! Very fast-paced and suspenseful.

Characters:

Amy: As the protagonist of the story, I loved her! She's an independent, kick ass, smart, mature, tough young girl who has managed to overcome a lot throughout the apocalypse, and living on her own with a baby who didn't even belong to her. I admire her for staying strong and civil about things, even when they seemed to be the worst they could be. She definitely possesses the qualities I enjoy seeing in a female protagonists. Although she does have a tough side, she also shows a weak, emotional one throughout the story, which I enjoyed. It showed me that she was still human. (Even when the world wasn't.)

Baby: I absolutely adored Baby! She is a very bright young child with qualities that you wouldn't expect to see in a little one. She can't speak, however, she knows many things that others do not. I couldn't help but see her as a weak one, due to the fact that she was small and very young, but man did she prove me wrong! I fell in love with her well into the book. I absolutely love the fact that this novel has two female characters with such strong and promising characteristics that make them enjoyable to read about, and admirable!

Writing: Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the writing. It definitely flowed well, and kept me reading for hours. Although the beginning was a bit bland, that tends to happen with a lot of books when the setting and the scenery is barely getting started. However, I had no problem enjoying what I was reading, and I definitely loved the creativity and the concepts that were introduced into the novel.

Overall Rating: Overall, I gave this book a 5 out of 5 star rating! At the time, I was in a huge reading slump, and this novel definitely took me out of it! It was action-packed, creative, and overall just a great story! I can't wait to read the second novel.
